Booklets

Saddle-stitched booklets are built from folded sheets, so the page count always runs in multiples of four: 8, 12, 16, 20 pages and upwards, counting every side including blanks. Text pages are usually 105 gsm or 128 gsm art paper for catalogues and programmes, or 100 gsm uncoated woodfree where the booklet is read rather than looked at. Covers are typically 200 gsm to 300 gsm art card, laminated matt or gloss so the folded spine does not scuff. A self-cover version, printed on the same stock as the text, sits flatter for mailing. The mistake we see most often is artwork supplied as reader spreads. Send single pages in reading order with 3 mm bleed and let imposition happen here. On thicker booklets allow for creep, which pushes inner-page content towards the outer trim.
